Activists Gather to “Unite for Justice” in Annapolis to
Urge Senators to Vote “No” on Brett Kavanaugh
Annapolis, MD – On August 26, 2018 for 1:30 to 3:00 PM, local activists and community leaders that champion reproductive freedom will gather for an Annapolis “Unite for Justice Maryland Day of Action” rally.
Donald Trump has long promised to only nominate a justice to the U.S. Supreme Court who will end Roe v. Wade and criminalize abortion. The Trump/Pence Administration believes this will happen with the addition of Judge Brett Kavanaugh. We cannot and will not go back to the days when abortion was illegal in this country. We know what is at stake in this fight: our most precious and fundamental rights. Brett Kavanaugh will not only work to end Roe and criminalize abortion, he will rule to gut healthcare access, disability rights, voting rights, LGBTQ rights, environmental protections, workers’ rights, immigrant rights, and there may be more that has yet to be uncovered in reviewing his decisions. Most importantly, his record of arguing for extreme executive privilege, such as suggesting that the U.S. Supreme Court was wrong to compel the Watergate tapes from President Richard Nixon, creates the real threat that confirming Kavanaugh will help Trump put himself above the law.
Marylanders are rallying to urge our senators as well as all senators across the nation to do whatever is possible to delay or stop the confirmation hearings, encourage the most important questions to be asked during the hearings, continue to do a thorough background check on Kavanaugh’s background, review as much of his writings as possible, and vote “No” on Kavanaugh to protect the freedom and agency of Maryland women and families.
